After the victory at St Lo the Allies must advance towards the town of Cherbourg and capture its vital port facilities to secure the supply line for the push into France and the Low Countries. This battle-set portrays this crucial campaign in a series of 20 battles.
The first step is to capture the strategic bridges across the River Vire and the crossroads controlling the road to Cherbourg (The Crossing and The Crossroads). The Allied task force must then press on overcoming one enemy strong point after another (The Academy, The Chateau, The Cattle Market, The Farm and The Village) before entering the outskirts of Cherbourg (The Suburbs), fend off a massive German infantry and tank counterattack fought out in the narrow streets of Cherbourg's old quarter (Counterattack), before capturing the port and docks complex in central Cherbourg (Cherbourg Docks).
Instruction on how to use this battle-set with Close combat is in the file "How to Install Cherbourg", read it carefully before trying to install the battle-set.
You can set the force strength for each side in all these battles but in this version you cannot use campaign mode.
The "Road to Cherbourg" is free and may be distributed freely as long it is unaltered and the original doumentation is included.
